This may be the first book I've bought because the author's cat was sick. Somehow that fits with the Douglas Adams adjacent humour of the book. I don't know how much the voice acting of this ebook contributes, but it is quite convincingly Brit for something written by a resident of the USA.

Book 2 (and final?) of the series...

Quite an engaging Vampire-adjacent story (also a bit ancient Egypt flavoured). Earlier work by NKJ, worth a read. I will say it boldly self contained for book 1 of a series.

This might be more aspirational than realistic. I'm not sure how much (if at all) this applies to underwater photography / lighting.

I heard an interview with the author on the Wabanaki Windows podcast, and it sounds interesting, if not exactly uplifting.

Welp, this is very odd so far. Lots of mystical sounding talk about equations.

Essentially all of the pros and cons of the first volume. Cleverly plotted, interesting characters, but kindof overwhelming violent.

Getting back into this after a long pause. I can't really explain the pause, except for a long time it felt like heavy going, compared to the other thing I was listening to at the same time (history of rock music). Now that I'm back into it does not feel especially heavy. While some of the political commentary is pretty pointed, no more than the first volume.
